Named comparison

They check the sentence. We hold the whole work to account.

Scrivener, Ulysses, ProWritingAid, and Grammarly are good at the sentence and the document. BellerWriters is built for the whole work: every claim with its source, its evidence status, and its place in the manuscript. We name them here because a comparison you can check is worth more than a category you cannot. Where they lead, we say so. Where we are behind, we list what we are building.

Competitor facts checked against each vendor’s own page on 2026-11-06. We compare the job, not the logo.

Where the whole-work layer differs

The difference is not a longer feature list. It is the unit of work: a claim, its source, and its place in the manuscript, kept together as the draft changes.

“Partial” means the tool offers something adjacent, not full claim/source custody. “—” means the capability is not part of that product’s documented job. Competitor facts come from each vendor’s own page (see Sources). BellerWriters capabilities link to the product surface that proves them.

What we are building to close the gap

These are the requirements we identified to match or surpass the competitors in the areas we intend to lead. They are not a feature-parity wish list; they are the work that makes the whole-work layer complete.

To surpass in the lead area

  • Argument graph + verification workflow. A visible claim→source→chapter map with evidence status and a review queue, not just a table. This is the core gap our own product review named.
  • Semantic paraphrase + lawful coverage. Calibrated passage verification for modified wording, and broader curated open-source/scholarly coverage, with false-positive rates reported.

To match at table stakes

  • Measured prose parity. An independent, held-out benchmark of our grammar/style checks against normalized competitor exports, reporting precision and recall instead of a marketing number.
  • Compile-format depth. Section layouts, front matter, and running headers on top of the existing EPUB/DOCX/PDF build.
What we are not building. A Corkboard clone, a distraction-free Markdown mode, blog publishing to WordPress/Ghost/Medium/Micro.blog, or a desktop-wide typing overlay. Those are not our lane. Adding them would be the “features the platform does not need” mistake. We build what the whole-work job requires.

How to read this page

A comparison is not a certification. Every competitor fact below links to the vendor’s own current page; every BellerWriters capability links to the product surface that proves it. If a cell is wrong, it is a bug: tell us and we will correct it. We do not claim a competitor lacks something unless their own documentation supports that reading, and we do not claim we have something we have not built.

Common questions

Is BellerWriters claiming to be better than these tools?

No. Each is good at the job it is built for: drafting and assembly, focused writing, prose reports, or real-time correctness. BellerWriters is built for a different job: keeping every claim tied to its source, evidence status, and manuscript anchor across a whole book. We say where each tool leads, and we list the gaps we are building to close.

Why does this page name competitors?

Because a comparison a reader can check is worth more than a category they cannot. We name competitors where the named comparison is accurate and sourced. We do not invent a capability, and we do not add features outside our lane just to match a feature list.

Where do the competitor facts come from?

Each vendor’s own current product or help page, linked in Sources. The pages were checked on 2026-11-06. If a cell is wrong, it is a bug; tell us and we will correct it.

Does the Claim Ledger verify facts?

No. It tracks claims, their sources, their evidence status, and their manuscript anchor, and it surfaces claims with no source, stale anchors, and cross-chapter contradictions. A human still checks the source against the claim. The free five-claim check is a source-gap report, not a fact-check.
